The House of Dust -no spoilers
This past week I finished Noah Broyles’ House of Dust after slow-rolling it over the course of a month or so. It deserved every minute I spent with it and managed to be one of two books this year I gave a five-star on Goodreads. Obviously, having been so stoked about the book, I have stuff to say about it:
The first and most consistent thing throughout the entire book is the atmospheric creep factor. From the first page (honestly from the first line) you’re lured into this world of pseudo religious secrets, fear, and madness. And it doesn’t bother to let you come up for air. the visceral imagery, the consistent feeling of something being just wrong is so present throughout this book that I can’t get it out of my head.
It really felt like nearly every chapter revealed information worthy of a slack-jawed “oh, shit.” And by the end of the story, this entire mystery having unfolded, you’re left with the most satisfying feeling of discomfort I can ever describe to a horror fan.
Suffice to say, I’m a huge fan of the novel, and know nothing about the author other than that he wrote it, hope to see more atmospheric, fear-addled writing in the future.
The Overarching Plan
In which I tell you I'm doing monthly posts of writing and have other such plans.
Howdy!
I figured I’d have the first blog post be the general plan for this webpage - First, I’d like to use this as a place to share small bits of flash fiction that I enjoy doing, which will happen on a monthly basis and be in a separate section of the page so they are easier to find and browse. Then there will be this blog, in which I’ll post updates to projects I’m working on, gush about books or movies I’m enjoying, and really whatever else I feel like putting in here. Outside of that will be largely connection to my social media and all the other things one might need a web page for.
